For people living with fatigue or other persistent physical symptoms
Who is the Discovery Star for?
The Discovery Star has been developed to help support people with persistent physical symptoms which are complex to identify and treat such as fatigue, breathlessness, ongoing pain, autonomic dysfunction such as PoTS (Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome – where heart rate is raised when sitting or standing) or palpitations.
Symptoms may be present due to a number of conditions, including post-viral presentations such as Long Covid, ME/CFS (Myalgic encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), or other persistent physical symptom presentations such as FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) or fibromyalgia.
There may not be a specific diagnosis or label. It charts the journey of discovery towards finding fulfilment, whatever that means for the person completing the Star, and a sense that things are stable and sustainable.
Using the Outcomes Star approach
The Discovery Star is designed to be used as part of the Outcomes Star approach. That’s why we provide essential training and ongoing support to all licenced practitioners, so you can embed the Outcomes Star approach in your practice.
How does the Discovery Star work?
The Discovery Star covers eight outcome areas that help to support adults managing persistent fatigue and other physical symptoms in their daily life, and assesses their progress towards each following a five-step Journey of Change.
You and the people you support will fill out the Star together, and use it to better identify where their strengths lie and where they might need more help, and to make plans for moving forward along the journey.
