Outcomes Star is a research-based, person-centred approach for guiding individuals and the people who support them along a journey of change.
Combining expert training and implementation support with sector-specific tools and a community of partners, the Outcomes Star approach aims to make it easier for those you support to see, understand and celebrate each milestone in their progress.
Creating clarity on what needs to happen
The Outcomes Star approach is a holistic way of supporting communication between a practitioner and the person they’re supporting.
As they work together to complete a Star, they’ll be able to identify where an individual’s strengths and assets are, as well as what specific help they need, and to tailor a plan for making the next step in their journey.

Will Outcomes Star be right for my service?
Before exploring our Stars and the approach behind them, you first need to know if Outcomes Star is best suited for your service delivery setting. Outcomes Star will be applicable for your service if:
You have ongoing, regular one-to-ones with your service users
Measuring outcomes is an integral part of that ongoing journey
Measuring progress towards an outcome is as important as measuring outcomes met
You want to measure progress on all or most areas of the Star
The data you collect will be used for ongoing learning and service improvement
Adapting to you
A Star for every journey
With an Outcomes Star licence, you’ll have access to every Star we have on offer. Each of these Stars have been developed with our network of collaborators to meet a specific sector or service need, and some have been co-created with clients.
As well as the Stars themselves, a licence also gets you all the necessary training to prepare you for implementing and using the approach, as well as expert support from our team throughout your practice.
An exploration of enabling help
In 2022, we published a report called enabling Help. Authored by Outcomes Star co-founder Joy MacKeith, it explores a vision for an approach to social provision rooted in research and theory about human needs and behaviour, that points to the importance of relationships, trust, motivation, skills and flexibility, in a context of access to the resources and opportunities that we all need to thrive.
