Our history
The first Outcomes Star prototype was developed by the Star’s creators, Sara Burns and Joy MacKeith, with St Mungo’s (a homelessness charity in the UK) in 2003. By 2006, together with the London Housing Foundation and Jellymould Creative, that prototype had evolved into the first Outcomes Star (for homelessness).
In 2007-2008, the Mental Health Recovery Star was developed in collaboration with the Mental Health Providers Forum in the UK, and in 2009-2010, various versions were developed in collaboration with the London Borough of Camden and other UK local authorities.
From those early days, our organisation developed into the social enterprise behind the Stars – investing in research, resources and support to help services get the most out of the Stars. And in 2023, 20 years on from the first Star prototype, we became employee-owned to continue our mission to guide the practice of change.
