For men taking part in a behavioural change or programme for perpetrators of domestic abuse
Who is the Change Star for?
The Change Star has been developed for use with men who are participating in a behaviour change programme or other service for perpetrators of domestic abuse.
The Change Star is intended to be a therapeutic tool as well as helping services to capture information on outcomes for the men participating. The overall aim of the Change Star is to keep women and children safe, so the emphasis is on how men can become safer for their partners and children to be around and identifies key outcomes like taking responsibility, safe actions and reactions, and communication.

The Empowerment Star has been developed for use for use in women’s refuge or outreach services, where domestic abuse is the main factor in women using the service and there is an ongoing support or relationship between a keyworker and the woman using the service.
The Star helps to empower women to live a life free from abuse independently of the service.
Using the Outcomes Star approach
The Change Star is designed to be used as part of the Outcomes Star approach. That’s why we provide essential training and ongoing support to all licenced practitioners, so you can embed the Outcomes Star approach in your practice.
How does the Change Star work?
The Change Star covers six key outcomes areas to help men with looking at their attitudes, behaviour and accountability, and also their wellbeing, and assess their progress towards each following a five-stage Journey of Change.
You and the people you support will fill out the Star together, and use it to better identify where their strengths lie and where they might need more help, and to make plans for moving forward along the journey.
