For young people participating in youth work programmes
Who is the Youth Star for?
The Youth Star was developed to be used in services that are providing universal, community-based youth work. It is aimed at young people aged 12-21 but may be used with younger or older children or young people if workers or managers feel it is appropriate.
The Star aims to help young people and the services supporting them identify progress towards key outcomes like interests and activities, hopes and dreams and communicating, and give clarity on where to focus next.

Using the Outcomes Star approach
The Youth Star (2nd Edition) is designed to be used as part of the Outcomes Star approach. That’s why we provide essential training and ongoing support to all licenced practitioners, so you can embed the Outcomes Star approach in your practice.
How does the Youth Star work?
The Youth Star covers six key outcomes areas that help support young people to build the confidence and skills to take part and do what they want to in life. It assesses their progress towards each outcome following a five-stage Journey of Change.
You and the young people you support will fill out the Star together, and use it to better identify where their strengths lie and where they might need more help, and to make plans for moving forward along the journey.

Always rooted in expertise and experience
This edition of the Youth Star is the 2nd Edition. The first edition of the Youth Star was developed in collaboration with Groundwork UK. The second edition was developed with input from Young Solutions, and the young people and youth workers from Woodrush Youth & Community Centre, Pershore Riverside Centre, Street Games, Redditch Youth & Community Enterprise and the Lancashire Youth Service (Preston).
