For young people involved in risk-taking behaviour, including substance misuse
Who is the Teen Star for?
The Teen Star has been developed for use with young people in substance misuse services, but can also be used in other settings where young people have complex needs. The Teen Star helps young people to understand and manage any substance misuse issues. They and the services who support them use the Star to identify progress towards key outcomes like drugs and alcohol, well-being and safety and security, and give clarity on where to focus next.

Organisations are advised to consider My Star for more intensive interventions, or the Youth Star for more universal, community based youth work.
Using the Outcomes Star approach
The Teen Star is designed to be used as part of the Outcomes Star approach. That’s why we provide essential training and ongoing support to all licenced practitioners, so you can embed the Outcomes Star approach in your practice.
How does the Teen Star work?
The Teen Star covers six key outcome areas, which were designed to link to the five high-level Every Child Matters (ECM) outcomes. It helps young people to manage issues such as substance misuse in their daily life, and assesses their progress towards each following a five-stage Journey of Change.
You and the young people you support will fill out the Star together, and use it to better identify where their strengths lie and where they might need more help, and to make plans for moving forward along the journey.

Always rooted in expertise and experience
The Teen Star was developed in collaboration with a group of Camden service providers, including Forward (FWD), Alcohol Recovery Project (ARP) and Youth Offending Service (YOS). The development was funded through Camden Council Invest to Save, with additional testing by Aquarius.
