Who is Planning Star UK for?
The Planning Star UK has been developed for young people seeking asylum who have been separated from their family and come to seek asylum, and for those who have come to the country to settle with relatives. It can be used with a range of ages, from the very young, through late teens and with those who are supported into their twenties.
The Planning Star UK helps them and the services supporting them identify progress towards key outcomes like where you live, physical health, and education, activities and work, and give clarity on where to focus next.

If you work with people who are refugees and are integrating into a community you might want to consider the Integration Star.
Using the Outcomes Star approach
The Planning Star UK is designed to be used as part of the Outcomes Star approach. That’s why we provide essential training and ongoing support to all licenced practitioners, so you can embed the Outcomes Star approach in your practice.
How does the Planning Star UK work?
The Planning Star UK covers eight key outcome areas that help children and young people who have come to the country to settle and assesses their progress towards each following a five-stage Journey of Change.
You and the people you support will fill out the Star together, and use it to better identify where their strengths lie and where they might need more help, and to make plans for moving forward along the journey.

Amharic, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish Sorani, Pashto, Tigrinya and Ukrainian.

Always rooted in expertise and experience
The Planning Star was developed in collaboration with a diverse group including South East Strategic Partnership for Migration and Pathways to Independence UK. The project was funded through a Controlling Migration Fund bid which was hosted by Brighton & Hove City Council on behalf of the local authorities in the south east region. The development process involved local authority managers and practitioners along with managers and workers from PTI.
There have been a number of focus groups with young people and participation from the Refugee Council, the Enthum Foundation, the WISE project, the Hummingbird project, John Ruskin College and Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.
