Music Therapy Star
For children accessing music therapy services
Who is the Music Therapy Star for?
The Music Therapy Star has been developed to help support children to achieve their full potential and move through any social or emotional barriers they face to this. The Star is designed to be completed by the music therapist working with the child, drawing primarily on clinical observations and professional judgement. Input from parent(s)/carer(s) and others can also be included where appropriate to provide additional perspectives. Â
The Music Therapy Star aims to help children and the people supporting them to build their confidence and abilities in key outcomes like relating, use of voice, emotional well-being and play and creativity and give clarity on where to focus next.
Using the Outcomes Star approach
The Music Therapy Star is designed to be used as part of the Outcomes Star approach. That’s why we provide essential training and ongoing support to all licenced practitioners, so you can embed the Outcomes Star approach in your practice.

How does the Music Therapy Star work?
The Music therapy Star covers five key outcome areas that help support children to achieve their full potential, and assesses their progress towards each following a five-stage Journey of Change.
The Star is designed to be completed by the music therapist working with the child, drawing primarily on clinical observations and professional judgement. Input from parent(s)/carer(s) and others can also be included where appropriate to provide additional perspectives. The Star will be used to better identify where the child’s strengths lie and where they might need more help, and to make plans for moving forward along the journey.
