What is Outcomes Star Training? #
Outcomes Star offers Outcomes Star training remotely or face to face. All practitioners should complete the Introduction course as a minimum before they can be licenced to complete Outcomes Stars with people they support.
You will learn:
• To understand the Journey of Change
• To be able to complete the Star collaboratively
• To understand your role in supporting meaningful outcomes information
• To use the Outcomes Star for effective action planning
• To develop consistency when using the Outcomes Star
The introduction training consists of 4 modules. The duration is 6 hours in total.
Our training delivery caters for different learning styles and learners will have the opportunity to practice completing a Star, engage in discussions and small group work to explore Star use relevant to your services and sector.
To ensure accessibility during the training, we consider the needs of all learners to meet their needs to the best of our abilities.
We provide all materials in printed format (hard copies) by courier or post to one address. We provide electronic copies to each participant. If you want more copies, please contact us to make an order.
It is vital that you attend the full course to be licensed to use the Star with the people you support. If anyone misses the training or part of the training, they will need to re-book on one of our open courses for which there will be an additional charge.
Please note that we cannot record training to be shared around your organisation. Please speak to us if you need a shorter briefing for senior managers, volunteers, fundraisers and analysts.
In-House Training #
If you need to train more than three members of your team, our In-House Training option is the most suitable solution. It also offers the added benefit of a focused day with one of our expert Star trainers at your organisation.
We offer both remote and face-to-face training, depending on your requirements and the number of delegates attending.
If you need to train three or fewer practitioners, our Open Training course is the best option for you.
You can find the latest dates for Open training sessions here.
Remote Training Overview #
We train groups of 4 to 12 learners remotely on the Outcomes Star Introduction Course, delivered in-house.
We assume that participants have access to their own individual devices and are working from home or in separate locations. We recommend using laptops for the best learning experience. Mobile phones are not suitable devices for accessing this training.
To engage fully in the course, you will need:
- A webcam (built-in or external). We have found that participants get the most out of the training when they have their camera on, as it helps them engage interactively with the session.
- A device that enables you to hear and be heard without interference and, where necessary, helps eliminate background noise.
- Confidence using IT and the ability to download Zoom or Microsoft Teams before the start of the training. Guidance will be provided at the beginning of the session.
- An adequate internet connection. This is important to check in advance, especially if participants are working from home or there is heavy internet traffic. Your internet connection should be at least 2.0 Mbps to utilise all Microsoft Teams features and 3.0 Mbps for robust Zoom sessions.
We can deliver the training remotely to a whole team working together in one room if the following apply:
- A suitable large screen and sound system are available
- Someone is present to support the facilitation of the training
As part of the pre-training call, the trainer will test the equipment in situ to ensure that the quality of the training will not be affected on the day.
Remote training is delivered over two half days. This aligns with best practice for online learning and helps practitioners retain more of the learning. If necessary, we can deliver the training in one full day.
Face-to-Face Training Overview #
We train groups of 5 to 16 learners on the Outcomes Star Core Course, delivered in-house. We deliver training to most locations across the United Kingdom.
Training is delivered over one full day and usually runs from 9:30am to 4:30pm. We expect your organisation to meet the minimum requirements set out in our Safe Training Guidelines.
If trainers are unable to travel due to illness or another reason, we will do our best to provide an alternative trainer. If this is not possible, we will either reschedule the training or deliver it remotely.
The trainer will need access to:
- A flipchart board and paper
- An adequate internet connection
- A large screen or projector with a sound system
Trainer travel and subsistence expenses will be charged in addition to the course costs.
Reserving In-House Core Training #
To arrange in-house training for your team, either online or in person, please contact your Implementation Specialist or our Helpdesk. We will provide you with a tailored quote.
Once you have reviewed and accepted the quote, we will schedule the training on a date (or dates) that are convenient for you, subject to trainer availability.
Lead Time for In-House Training #
Our typical lead time for booking in-house training is 4 to 6 weeks, so we recommend sharing your preferred dates and availability as early as possible.
Open Core Training #
We run open training throughout the year. This is an accessible option for small teams or individuals looking to complete Core Star training for any version of the Outcomes Star. Organisations can send up to three workers to open training. Open courses are delivered remotely through Zoom or Teams. We run at least one course a month, and upcoming dates can be found here.
In our open courses we welcome up to 12 people in one group and will focus on up to three different Stars. Please be aware that you will be working with others from different sectors and using different Stars.
Reserving a Place on an Open Core Course #
To request a place on an Open Core Course, please email the Helpdesk with the following information:
- Your preferred course dates
- The Star you would like training in
- Whether you require any additional licences
Once we receive your request, we will send you a quote. Please note that places can only be confirmed once the quote has been accepted.

The Number of Stars You Can Be Trained In #

If you are considering using additional Stars going forward, please do contact your Implementation Specialist here at Outcomes Star.
Requirement to Attend Both Training Dates #
Each time we run an Open Core Course, the training takes place across two half days (module 1 & module 2). Attendance at both modules within the same month is required to complete the core course.

If you need to change the date of your training, please contact the Helpdesk and we will work with you to find alternative suitable dates. Please note our training cancellation charges apply when making changes to your booking.
