Who is the Integration Star for?
The Integration Star was developed for refugees who are integrating into a community. The Star helps refugees and the people supporting them to identify progress towards key outcomes like housing, money, practical English and community and connections, and give clarity on where to focus next.
- Can the Integration Star be used with children and young people?
If your service works with children and young people who are seeking asylum we also have the Planning Star – which is for work with both unaccompanied asylum seekers and those who have come to the country to settle with relatives.
Using the Outcomes Star approach
The Integration Star is designed to be used as part of the Outcomes Star approach. That’s why we provide essential training and ongoing support to all licenced practitioners, so you can embed the Outcomes Star approach in your practice.
How does the Integration Star work?
The Integration Star covers eight key outcome areas to help refugees who need support to integrate into their new country and to build a life there. It assesses their progress towards each outcome area following a five-stage Journey of Change.
You and the people you support will fill out the Star together, and use it to better identify where their strengths lie and where they might need more help, and to make plans for moving forward along the journey.

Always rooted in expertise and experience
The Integration Star was developed in collaboration with the Refugee Council and Community Refugee Organisations. The framework and content were co-created in workshops with refugee support workers and managers and piloted by the following refugee services:
RETAS (Refugee Education Training Advice Service) Leeds, Leeds Refugee Forum, Path Yorkshire, Goodwin Development Trust, Humber Community Advice Services (H-CAS), Refugee Action Kingston, Iranian Association, Diversity Living Services, Bahar Women’s Association, Action for Community Development, West Yorkshire Somali Association, DAMASQ, Stepping Stone 4 and Leeds Swahili Community.
The development of the Integration Star was part funded by the European Union Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund.
