Who is the Gambling Recovery Star for?
The Gambling Recovery Star has been developed for people who need help to recover from harmful gambling. The Star helps them to identify progress towards key outcomes like gambling, family and close relationships and connection and community, and give clarity on where to focus next.
- Do you work with people impacted by the addictive behaviour of someone close to them?
If your service works with people who have been impacted by the addictive behaviour of someone close to them – such as a family member, partner, adult child or close friend you may want to consider the Family Impact Star.
Using the Outcomes Star approach
The Gambling Recovery Star is designed to be used as part of the Outcomes Star approach. That’s why we provide essential training and ongoing support to all licenced practitioners, so you can embed the Outcomes Star approach in your practice.
How does the Gambling Recovery Star work?
The Gambling Recovery Star covers eight key areas that are essential to helping people recover from harmful gambling, and assesses their progress towards each following a five-stage Journey of Change.
You and the people you support will fill out the Star together, and use it to better identify where their strengths lie and where they might need more help, and to make plans for moving forward along the journey.

Always rooted in expertise and experience
The Gambling Recovery Star was developed in collaboration with frontline organisations that were based in Australia. A primary collaborator was Relationships Australia Queensland (RAQ). The Star was funded by Gambling Help Innovation Fund, Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General. Centacare North Queensland, Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland and UnitingCare Community participated in the development alongside RAQ.
